breast cancer

today is declared as a college holiday since yesterday was the college day..but unfortunately for us the final year students we have class..till 4.30pm..it sucks!!

so unfair..why do they do this to us?? it's not like we don't have time to finish our syllabus..we have a whole year for that..plus the fact that we don't even have a real holiday..the only official holiday is after our final exam..that too is only approx. 3 weeks before becoming interns..

when will we ever have our rest?? it's very tiring being a final year student..we now have to take postings more seriously..we come everyday..preparing for seminars in the afternoon..why won't they let us rest even for a day?? WHY???

now i'm in surgical postings..the unit doctor is nice..always teaches us something..anything we want to know..but after sometime it's very tiring due to the fact that we have to come for posting daily since our doctor recognizes each and everyone's faces..you can never lie to him..and coming in the afternoon to take case to be discussed the next day..plus with this hot weather it really drains your energy away..

yesterday we discussed a case of a known breast carcinoma..i pity that patient..there was two patient actually..one is 35 and the other is 45..they both know the diagnosis but they don't know what it is actually..they just assume it was a lump in their breast and it doesn't disturb their life..one lady had a very huge lump which u can see without touching and it was very hard..previosly she had appendicectomy and had her uterus removed..she had undergone 2 surgeries and now she's diagnosed with cancer..her only son is just 7 years old..it's scary..

both were happy, smiling and laughing like everything is normal..patients here are illiterate so they don't know the impact of breast cancer on their life..as our prof told us breast cancer is not a curable disease..once diagnosed with it we can only provide palliative care to allow the lady to live a normal life as far as possible..

the lady which we examined has stage 4 breast cancer i think..she will be scheduled for a mastectomy (removing the affected breast)..she and her sister looks happy..but they don't know that with her case, prognosis might not be good..we feel helpless..we only know how to ask questions and understand their reply in kannada to a limited extent..when they express their insecurity or doubt we feel soooo helpless since we can't understand them..we can't console them..i wish her well..

in an hours time i'll be having obg class..huuuuuuuuu...
i'm tired....

final year prepares u for internship.. just b prepared for the worst during intern. there is no such word as relax in life. haha.. penat kan? but we chose this pathway. n i hope we wl b good in this. good Muslimah Doctor. insyaAllah :)

hm.. breast Ca actually carries good prognosis IF it is detected early. sadly most of the patients presented with advance Ca. that is the problem kan. i think with patient education, they shud know. tapi ye la, to come and see Dr, and to b told that it is cancer, it really scares. is it the reason why ppl dun see Dr? n some ppl believe in complimentary medicine. they only come to Dr when the complimentary med fails. hmm... camne ek..

alamak, panjang lebar lak aku bebel.. hehe
