life as a med student 2

3rd year..

nothing much happened..3rd year was the beginning of our clinical years..we had ent, ophthal and community medicine..

we started taking clinical practice more seriously..for ent we examined patients using the bulls eye lamp..seeing into people's nose,mouth,ear...then examining among ourselves to see how it looks like..i was a specimen for how a tonsil-less mouth looks like since i had mine removed last year..

then for ophthal we kept shining our torches into peoples eye..looking for cataract..it was fun actually when you really know what you're doing..

final year..

seems like it was just yesterday we arrived in mangalore..it was so foreign to us..now we know the city inside out..which road is faster..which road is cheaper for auto fares..the best place to hangout..the best place for dosa..where to shop groceries..which coffee day tastes better..anything..

even wenlock hospital is like our 2nd home..every morning we'll follow drs for rounds all around the hospital..then at 5pm we'll come back again to take cases or check on patients..which path is less 'busuk'..seriously the hospital stinks!! but u'll get used to it..

now i'm having surgery postings..everyday we have to present a case to our dr..so everyday we have to go case hunting..on monday we have OPD..patients come on that day..we'll be hoping that a patient with lump in the breast to come or any cases of hydrocele(accumulation of fluid in scrotum)..but sadly till today we still have'nt had any luck..what is it with us..hopin for someone with breast cancer to come..just so that we can examine..for that patient it will be very frustrating to be diagnose with cancer..but we have to learn right??

we've been touching, probing patients body part..touching the abdomen with bare hands is still ok..but we touched their private parts with our bare hands..there is 12 of us in a group..then all 12 will touch that guys part..we'll all be squeezing..pressing not knowing wut exactly to feel for..thats the way of learning.. but poor patient..one advantage of studying in india..u can get hands on experience..and also see cases which might not be common in the western countries..good for learning..

another 1 1/2 year before leaving india for good and finishing our mbbs degree..after this we'll all part ways..not knowing where we'll be sent to..i hope i get somewhere close to home..i don't wanna be seperated from my family anymore..feels like i've been missing out those important family events..
