baby

today was a sad day..

we went to the hospital again in case today was our luck to witness a birth of a child. and we were lucky after waiting for about 3 hours. when we came the lady was already crying in pain. she was in pain since morning according to my friend who had the morning shift. me and my friend came at 1pm.

since the lady was not fully dilated we wondered around the hospital to examine those pregnant ladies. funny on how they reacted. once they saw us they all ran out of the ward. obviously they did'nt want us asking question.

but there were a few patients who did'nt mind. so we palpated their bulging tummy trying to make out where was the back,the limbs, the head. and the most challenging thing was to locate the fetal heart sound which was like a ticking clock.

then around 4 we went back to the labour theatre. the lady was still crying in pain. imagine the lady was in pain since morning.its scary..then the pg told that she was ready.so we were excited.finally after all the waiting we get to see the labour.

the lady pushed very hard by herself and the head came out. but something was wrong. the face was blue.then the whole body was delivered. the baby was floppy and blue. he did'nt cry. no sound.quiet.

something was really wrong.the pg immediately took the baby to the table and tried to resuscitate him. they pat his back to try to stimulate him. they did suction.they gave oxygen.they did cpr.they did everything.but the baby was literally blue.still no cry.no movement. the chest was still warm. but the lower limbs were cold. after sometime there was no movement nor cry. the baby was dead.

the mother was crying like mad.she knew something was wrong when she saw everyone running around sounding urgent.poor lady.she had been carrying him for 9 months.and went through the whole day having labour pain.but in the end her baby was no more.he was still alive inside the mother.the scene was unforgettable.
if i was the doctor in charge how would i convey the bad news?? i felt very sad seeing that happen in front of my own eyes.
