my 2nd night shift was intense..when i came at 8pm yesterday to nicu one baby was hooked on a ventilator already..oxygen saturation kept coming down..had to do suction many times..also the electricity in mangalore right now is haywire..imagine being in the dark in the nicu with all the machines off..we had to bag that baby in the dark..
i managed to sleep 1 hr..but right when i woke up everything happened..it was hard to be alert when ur still sleepy..but in an intense situation anything is possible..one baby was having seizure while giving calcium gluconate..had to give that baby midazolam..but still had seizure..then infused phenobarb over 10 mins..then finally stopped..
then labour theatre called..one emergency case was there..baby wasn't breathing..sr pg intubated the baby..but still no spontaneous breathing..baby was declared dead this morning..then another emergency case came up..mother was suppose to go for c-section but staff could'nt come..so they tried to deliver normally..baby came out not breathing..intubated baby and gave vigorous stimulation baby breathed spontaneously..we were understaffed so i had to carry baby myself to nicu..
then in nicu oxygen sat of ventilator baby was dropping..had to attend to that baby...then labour theatre called again..came running down again..and then i realised the sun was up..and i still haven't completed the daily reports..so had to do that and take weight of ward babies..
and so it was last night..the most intense night ever..when ur monitoring one baby another baby deteriorates..
i hope tonight will be a peaceful night..hope all babies are stable..and now i'm going to sleep..so tired already..
and to make things more embarrassing..i accidentally slept in the mens room..i was so shocked when i woke up my sr pg was in the next bed telling me next time to sleep in the ladies room..heh..what a night..
