experiment

today i was officially the sole intern in my unit and very busy..

busy till i didn't have time to eat anything at all..i had a cup of coffee thats it..

i had to do so many big dressings..one a fungating breast cancer which was very foul smelling with pus that u have to wear a mask to do the dressing..

then another guy, his wound was healing nicely..but an abscess started to form elsewhere..it was quite big..when my pg came he told me to do the incision n drainage..i've done one but that was very small..

so..the confident me..i injected local..heh..but the needle went thru n thru..so basically some of the LA leaked out..but still some was retained..

then after a few minutes i tested that guy's sensation.."novu unta appa??".."ilak"..ok..no pain..so i made my incision..

blood started oozing out..then i used an artery forceps to open up the loculi to drain out all the pus..as i went deeper..that guy started to shout.."novu"..meaning pain..obviously my LA was not working..but i kept poking him deeper n deeper..n squeezing the abscess..first time my gloved hands was bloody..finally..

then i told my pg its done..he came n said..ur incision is too small..make a bigger one..now put ur little finger in and try to break the loculi..indeed..more pus came out..if it was me alone doing it..my effort in draining the abscess would be useless..heh..

poor old guy..sorry eh..really sorry..i had to learn..anyway hope u'll get better soon!!
