i forgot to mention this last week..
on this very day..last week..i did something that i am very proud of..
i donated blood for the first time..this was for a patient in need..for him to get free blood, he had to provide a replacement..and since i'm the same blood group i volunteered..
i had been wanting to donate blood for a long time..but condition did not permit..numerous time i had babies under my care in need of B+ blood..and i offered my blood..but the profs won't let me..they say if i donated blood who would be working then??
same thing happened here..i left my posting at around lunch time..but my collegues stayed back with the senior prof..he asked them where i was..they told that i went to donate blood..then he started babbling..why must she donate blood??girls are not supposed to donate blood until absolutely necessary..
what he said was true to some extent..first girls are prone for anemia due to the monthly blood loss..2nd..platelets in a normal girl are much less compared to a normal boy..so if the patient was in need of platelets, girls blood is of no use..so the blood bank people encourage boys to be the donor instead of girls..
but whatever the fact is, i am healthy so i was willing to donate blood..i was excited and scared at the same time..the needle was huge..and my whole arm went numb when blood started to come out..it took only 10 minutes for my blood to fill the 350ml bag..it was that fast..after that i felt kinda light headed..they gave me mango juice..then i slept the whole day..
the next morning i felt energetic..more healthy..donating blood not only save lives..but it also makes you healthy..it encourages your body to make new blood..
